He has a lot of output during the night, which isn't a real problem since he doesn't move around in bed due to a prior stroke. However, the other night it was so heavy it pulled away and we had a bit of a leak. He doesn't really eat anything past 6 PM, so we're curious as to why he produces so much stool during the night. Any ideas?

Cause it takes time for food to process through your system. And various foods take longer than others.

Your a amazing wife. The Illeostomy time frame that moves food through can range 4-6 hours and also how hydrated you are that moves things through. If you stop eating around 6pm your looking at 10-12 midnight. Also your gut slows down at night so you might be looking at morning hours when it starts up. Because he is not as mobile because of his prior stroke things might work through slower. Search the importance of staying hydrated on this site and the different tricks to help absorb more fluids and you might have him running like clockwork on the time of his output at night.

Check into two piece systems where a larger bag can be used which might help on the higher output til his body heals and gets back to a more normal state post surgery.

Hope this helps

Best to both of you.
