Hello there everyone :-)

Just wanted to let you know that I am new here.

I had a colostomy op on the 7th of Oct this year. It went well, but I am now home and I am sure that I shall have questions to ask along the way. It was my first operation ever; I don't usually do things by halves!!

I'm pretty sure that it will be reversible, so I just have to wait for it to heal. It's funny, I find walking about not so good at the moment, can't go far, and even housework tires me out. Luckily, I have wonderful family and friends who support me as I live alone, and are there to help.

That said, though, there is nothing like speaking to people who are in the same situation as you are, so that's why I joined, for support and guidance. Some days I feel very down, other days like today I'm quite high and happy, so I just take each day as it comes.

I would love to hear from you if you wish to reply. I'm still getting used to how the site operates, but so far so good!

And that is my introduction :-)

Welcome Lydia, I think you're doing really well to be reaching out to a site like this when you're still getting your head around it. I wish I had found it sooner. I have had a stoma since 2007: colostomy first, then a break of 6 months or so with a proper bottom :), and then an ileostomy. What I will say to you is let people do for you. Doing too much too soon is a bad idea; the risk of adhesions is a real one. Nap often and spoil yourself a little, and remember you're not alone. There are some wonderful people here, all with a story to tell and some really worthwhile nuggets of info. When I first had my op, I remember sobbing in the bathroom after yet another disaster with my stoma, thinking this was going to be my life, covered in poo! It does get better, I promise.

Hi Lydia - this is a great site - I'm glad you found us and welcome! It's another hot day in S. California - yesterday was a perfect Fall day for Halloween. That's what they say about California weather - if you don't like it just wait an hour or two. It'll be cold tonight for my little beagle out in the garage. He may have to sleep in the house :)

Hi Lydia, I am also new to this site. I have had my colostomy since May this year. I am going for my reversal in 3 weeks' time and also a hysterectomy, but it's not all being plain sailing since May. I thought I was Wonder Woman and I paid the price, so please take all the help offered and rest plenty. Take care. x

Hi Lydia,

I too am new as a member to this site, although I am yet to join as a full member.

Your OP is very recent indeed, and I hope you are feeling more strength each day.

I wish you all the best in achieving a reversal. All the best and take care,
dearjohn

Hi Lydia—I'm as new as you are here to the site. I had my colostomy surgery in September and am still trying to deal with everything, although mine is permanent. I knew it was inevitable for a very long time as I was dealing with Crohn's for 17 years. I am glad that I have a very supportive and caring family. Wish you all the best!
