For those of you in the U.K wishing to donate your surplus ostomy supplies, you can send them to me at www.thelifegoesonfoundation.org.uk. Go to the Ostomy Appeal tab in the menu bar for details of where to send them and how the Ostomy Appeal operates.

The Life Goes On Foundation was launched from the summit of Ben Nevis (U.K's highest mountain) on the 29th of June 2008, where a 4ft colostomy bag was flown from the top.

Among other projects, the foundation sends donated ostomy supplies to disadvantaged ostomates and those in desperate need of ostomy surgery in the third world, developing countries, disaster areas, and certain individuals who fall out with their own government's medical schemes.

Since launching the foundation in June, there have been shipments of pallet loads of assorted ostomy supplies sent to Liberia, Cameroon, Romania, and Serbia. The foundation has also sent ostomy supplies to various individuals in Indonesia, Pakistan, and believe it or not, the U.S.A and Canada.

The Foundation also gives out free Radar Keys to Scottish ostomates that unlock all of the 7000+ disabled toilets within the U.K, and free designer pouch covers to Scottish ostomates as well. The foundation has also recently launched its new website with an integrated social network site similar to Facebook so ostomates worldwide can interact live with each other.

Hey Sweede,
That's a wonderful thing the Foundation is doing. Great! By the way, please give the link of the
new website where we can interact with ostomates. Thanks.

Hey southina, the link for the social network is the same link as the foundation posted above.
But just in case of confusion, it's www.thelifegoesonfoundation.org.uk
Meetanostomate is by far the best interactive ostomate site going, in my opinion. Ostomyland at www.ostomyland.com is another, although free speech tends to be restricted within Ostomyland, much to my disappointment (I have often been reprimanded for speaking my mind in there, lol).
There are a few other sites also, that you can interact through the forums, but as far as I am aware, (and I am very happy to be corrected on this) we three sites are the only ones with chatrooms.

Sweede, it's great that you are collecting & distributing extra supplies. I'd like to find a way to donate my extras to needy ostomates in the Houston, TX area. I think there must be organizations that do this; I just can't find them. I also think there are probably some needy ostomates in the Houston area. Any contacts will be appreciated.

Hi Bamatex, hey nice idea dude. Well, first off, it may be an idea to ask your local ostomy chapter to see if they already have a service for disadvantaged ostomates, or perhaps try to arrange setting up such a service. The URL for the United Ostomy Association Houston is http://www.uoahouston.org

Failing that, there is an organization called Osto Group that provides free ostomy products to the uninsured. They are based in Florida. You can contact them at http://www.ostogroup.org

Failing that, you could always contact Friends of Ostomates Worldwide at http://www.fowusa.org to see if they will take them off your hands. And if that fails, then perhaps an advert in the local newspaper; you might be surprised how many replies you get.

Best of luck, dude. I'm sure there are a few in the Houston area that could use those supplies.

That's very sweet of you to say, Annie. I reckon the book will develop in due course. Things are a bit hectic here at the moment. I have a new shed (jigsaw puzzle!) arriving in a few days, and I have cartons of donated supplies all over the place, lol.

The aim is to build the shed and move the whole ostomy appeal side of things into there. It will have its own independent solar energy supply and have a mini office in it also. So, yeah, things are a bit hectic. Once things have settled down a wee bit, then I may concentrate on the info diary a bit more.

Hope you are well. x

Sweed, I don't know if you need these or not, but I have a whole lot of the disposable bed pads.

They are about 24" X 36" and are waterproof on one side and have an absorbent surface on the other.

My wife was using them but she had to have a catheter and doesn't use them anymore.

Contact me at ****

Also, I have the disposable underwear for Pamela.

Let's try this... type my user ID followed by the number 9; my client is cox.net
