Tips for Securing a Urostomy Bag While Bicycling

I have been keeping in shape by riding a stationary bike. Now that it is spring, I will be going outdoors. I am searching for the best way to secure the pouch while riding. I tried a stealth belt, which didn't fit properly; probably my error in ordering it before watching the YouTube videos on how to measure. At any rate, their customer service number doesn't work, and they are dealing with some ownership issues, etc. I have two questions. 1. What is the best way to secure the bag while bicycling? 2. Is there a problem with putting pressure on the bag while cycling?

Any advice would be welcome!!!

I'd think a belt or wrap would be your best bet. It's a shame about the stealth belt, but there are other options.

I haven't tried these, but they make leg bags for urostomies. That might help distribute weight.

I'd keep pressure to a minimum. I've had trouble with too much pressure on a nearly full bag. I'm thinking you may fill up quickly while out cycling and end up in a tricky situation. Light pressure from a wrap or a belt like the stealth belt is probably fine, but not more.

A very cheap but good way is to buy what the ladies call a boob tube. If you're a big guy, then buy two and sew them together for a not-too-tight fit.

I ride with an ostomy secrets wrap, but I think anything that keeps the bag snug to your body would work.

Will these wraps help for not as active an activity, like just walking? I find that I tend to hold my bag as my chubby belly kind of moves, and it hurts sometimes. Other times, I can walk just fine, especially now I'm using the Brava sheets, so I think it's just my skin that's hurting, not the stoma or anything like that.

Have you got any old lycra cycling shorts? If you have, cut up the legs so you can pull them straight up over your bag.

The wraps will help with any activity. I hate moving without my belt. I only do that to shower or when the belt is being washed. Unless I have emptied the bag very recently, the weight of any urine at all makes it feel like the bag is trying to pull itself off my skin. I end up holding it. Not convenient since I need my hands to push a walker or hold a cane, and then there's the whole "looking strange holding a bag" thing lol.

The colostomy bag is usually empty, but when it isn't, it also feels better with the belt. I suspect the sensation making me think the bags are coming off is all in my head, but the belt is still a relief.

Zip ties. 😁 If a urostomy bag is located basically where the other ostomies are (because I really don't know anything about urostomies), the OstomySecrets wraps would work.

Urostomies are usually on the right side and positioned like an ileostomy. The main difference is the output and the fact that there's really no way to get a break from output without seriously dehydrating yourself.

The main consideration that's different from the others is that someone exercising will normally be hydrating at the same time, causing the bag to fill and get heavy rather quickly.

I might risk exercising with no support for my colostomy because it normally won't start spewing and getting heavy if I don't eat immediately before working out. But I would never take a risk with my urostomy.

I don't have an ostomy secrets wrap, but I think it would work fine.
