Has anyone with an ileostomy tried the diet pill Alli? Or does it work in large colon which I do not have so would be useless or harmful? Just wondered if anyone has ever tried it? I quit smoking 11/2 years and 17# ago and would like to loose the 17#!! It is sooo hard older I get!!

Thanks

Ahhhhhh! Don't go there! I tried them when they were only available on prescription. They did work, and I lost weight ........ however, the fat absorbed from the diet makes the resultant waste VERY oily .... my bags were popping off left right and centre as they would not stick! Eventually I ended up in hospital for an overnight stay as my gut rebelled and I had a lot of pain with it. Good luck with it all! Rachel x

Did you have an ostomy or ileostomy when you took the Alli? When the bags slipped off, were they one or two piece units? I was planning to take it to loose weight in preparation for a take-down surgery.

I understand Alli also prevents blood clotting by absorbing vitamin E. That would be a problem if I decided on doing the surgery.

Hi sooziq

All I can tell you is about myself.

I was very ill and also well overweight. Dieting over the years has made my weight yo yo.

Then in February I was diagnosed as having high acid levels in my body. I did a lot of research into acid/alkaline diets and discovered a lot of people are too acidic for their own good.

On the 1st of March this year I started on an alkaline diet, using test strips to test how things were going every two weeks.

I am now healthier than I have been in ten years. My stoma works 85% better and I have lost three stone in weight (not a calorie counted...just followed alkaline diet from web sites)

when I reached my optimum weight I stopped loosing and I am now nine stones (126 pounds) exactly...the right weight for my height/age/sex.

I am amazed/grateful and walk round with a smile on my face. Not only has this made a big change to my life but to everyone around me.

It's worth checking out my friend, you have nothing to loose in buying the test strips on line

(here in the U.K. you can't buy them in the chemist/drug stores as they just sell the test strips to test your sugar levels. )

Check out acid/alkaline diets and foods on the web... see how you get on.

Hope this is of help as non of us want to take medications if we don't have to.

P.S. I just had tests on Friday. for the first time in eight years my oesophagus tested no longer to be pre-cancerous so I'm extra, extra happy.

good luck....Butterfly

Hi, I have an ileostomy - and wear a one piece drainable bag. The 'grease' just oozed under the adhesive and made the bags slide off!

Not sure about the blood clotting thing, that bit didn't crop up!

Good luck with the weight loss! Rachel

hi i used alli tags for about 3 mths and had no probs at all,as long as you stick to the recommended grams of fat per meal you should not be passing oil,it;s exactly the same for those without a stoma stick to the grams and don;t eat too much fat and you don;t get the side effects,by the way i also do not have a colon and have an illieostomy and lost 16lbs with alli.i wear a convex two-piece and have had no probs with bags becoming loose etc-hope this helps!what;s the worst that can happen it;s not like we have to run to the toilet and if it doesn;t suit you stop!

I've been doing the Hcg Diet & had no problems so far.  I don't cut my calories that low(they say 500, I stick with 1500) but I do use the hcg & drink the water.  I've joined the YMCA, too.

Good luck! 12/8/11 is my quit date for nicotine.
