Hi, has anyone treated themselves with a silver nitrate pencil? I have several stoma granulomas (8) and am worried about treating myself. I don't have access to an ostomy nurse right now. Can someone tell me about their experience?

Never done it myself but it seems pretty straightforward. Basically like burning a wart off.

I have a few granulomas and have swapped from the red silver nitrate pencil to the stronger blue. Both can be found on Amazon. My SCN nurse always uses a water-based lubricant to protect the area around the granuloma, but I'm a bit lazy and don't bother. The nitrate pencils do help reduce the granulomas.

Yes, it's easy. You want to use 75% silver nitrate, lightly press on granuloma, and count to 10. It will sting a bit, but it's not that bad. Once you've done it a few times, you don't even notice it. Are the granulomas around the base of your stoma? Just asking as that could mean the hole in the base is being cut too small or too big. If the hole is too small, the base can rub against the stoma causing granulomas. If the hole is too big, you can get them from the skin getting sore.

Burning it off! Stings a bit! Definitely not for me!

Can I ask were they actually on your stoma? I have some red bumps and I am worried they are polyps - I sent some pics in to wound nurses. One nurse said nothing to worry about, the other forwarded to surgeon who says they look ok but wants me to come in. Just wondering how yours looked and if they ever went away? These don't bother me, but IDK if they are something to worry about. I have only had a stoma since May 28 of this year - seems like once the stitches came out I got these red bumps on both sides of it. Thanks for anyone's advice.
