hey tabby and welcome. sorry to hear you are having problems, we all have had them and i promise things will get better. you will find a system and routine that works ,so dont give up. i use coloplast supplies and they are not too expensive once you get your wear time {experience} down. i know they make an inverted type flange that cups in. i buy mine from a place called rta you can google them and get prices. till you get everything worked out try watching what you eat, eat low fiber and dont overeat... remember what go`s in must come out. you might try posting for the nurse  on this forum. remember what other people can manage..... you can too.

Saw your post.  Nuhope makes great stuff.....will you insurance cover ostomy supplies in general?

My best suggestion would to see an ostomy RN for a re-fit since stomas and body contours change a lot in the first year.

Next best suggestion without looking at you...you want to pop that stoma out to be an "outie"...I am guessing your leaks/skin irritation is at the 6 o'clock area by your stoma description.

Suggestions:  add a belt (the kind that hooks in the loops at the side of the pouch); the tension helps pull the pouch towards your body and pops the stoma out a bit.  This helps the discharge go more in the pouch than straight down (which undermines your seal).

You might also want to consider either a convex wafer/pouch or adding an Eakins seal or Adapt seal (which can make slight convexity with the benefit of being less rigid and molding more to your body).  You may still need the belt depending......

Most of the USA companies are happy to send you samples.

for the raw skin:  suggest using Karaya or Stomahesive powder to the area, dust off the excess, then use a No Sting or Cavilon skin barrier on  top.

Hope this helps.

Hi I'm in the UK and luckily I get free prescriptions, due to some medication I have to take for the rest of my life.  $239.00 for 10 bags seems very expensive and very unfair. If you have a stoma you need the bags.  It has taken me a while to find a product a get on with but I think I have sorted it now.   I use around 30 bags a month.  I use a one piece and use a no sting adhesive remover to remove the bag and I use cavilon as a skin barrier.  The cavilon seems to work well against skin becoming irritated.

Sorry I cant help about the bags and the cost of them but maybe the cavilon will help with skin irritation.

I have the same problem, I use the convatec moldable flanges with convexity (which I LOVE) I put an eakin seal on and I take a piece of the one of the tape sticks, stretch it a bit, and apply to the eakin, close to the inner edge and try to get it as close to the area where it's gauged out.  I had a j pouch but then ended up with an ileostomy. Surgeon went in at same incision site for the second stoma so its a more mangled on one side and the bottom because of it. Filling that part in with a piece of tape stick makes a big difference. The moldable flanges are great too because it forms a seal around the stoma.  I can only imagine even how much more secure it would be a with a good stoma.  I usually get 6 or 7 days out of it.
