I haven’t been on this site for a long time and am okay with my ostomy bag until recently. It has been about 2-1/2 years since my surgery but now I am going to the bathroom both in my bag and normally through the rectum which is still in place. Is this unusual? It’s almost like diarrhea and not just mucous. Should I worry? I feel great, no pains or anything.

If it's not just mucus, then you should call your doctor, no question about it. You shouldn't be having anything but mucus come out of your bottom end. It's not built-up mucus that is finally coming out, is it?

I have a permanent colostomy, 2 years post op.  I don't have UC, or Chrones.  Or any other intestinal condition.

I experience the same thing.  Sometimes small sized mucus drops.  Other times a tablespoon sized amount flows out, and does resemble a small amount of diarrhea. Goes in cycles.  A few months....nothing.  Then drops start appearing... then the aforementioned "flow."  I consulted with my Gastroenterologist about this earlier this year.  Everything looked normal.

Definitely get this checked out by a Gastroenterologist.  Each of us is different.

It's not an embarrassing question.  It's something most of us deal with.  Speaking frankly about it is necessary, especially on this web site.  No question is too gross,

If this is different than usual for you, get it checked out by a doctor.

I had surgical complications resulting in discharge like that. If you developed a similar problem, it could make you very sick if left untreated. Your doctor will know if this is normal or not.

Parroting the others, when in doubt, ask your doc or have it checked out.  Hopefully it's just discolored mucus or something, but better be safe about it.
