So I have a permanent colostomy and  was having severely hard and large stool passing last week and for about 3 days I would literally have to pull the stool out of my stoma because it couldn't stretch that wide.  Needless to say there was a lot of bleeding and pain.  My stool is back to normal now but my stomach muscle everytime i urinate... i no longer have the ability to urinate without "bearing down"/ using my abdominal muscles. I feel a sharp pain more in my muscle around the stoma. I am wondering if I could have torn my muscle or if I am possibly experiencing the beginning stages of a prolapse or a possible hernia.  I'm just wondering if I should wait it out,

and see if it heals itself .

The pain isn't constant it is only when i directly use my abdominal muscles, or if I should go and see my gastro dr?

Any input would be great! thanks so much

I suggest not waiting and seeing your gastro or other physician of your choice.

Hello 3boysmom.  Sounds like good advice from Sinfulsot. Although I found that the ostomy nurse knew more about aftercare than the surgeon. I had a similar problem when I first had my colostomy. The ostomy nurse poked around and dislodged the blockage, but more importantly gave me the confidence to sort it out for myself after that.  There is no doubt in my mind that the problems would be much worse if I did not irrigate. It's not for everyone but definitely something you should look into.

Best wishes Bill
