Leaking Issues with New Ostomy Pouches

I use a 2 piece wafer and closed pouch system. Yesterday we returned from the beach, I changed out my entire package, both wafer and pouch and found that there was a leak in the pouch I just replaced. I ran back to the bathroom and changed that one out too, and soon found out that was a leaker too. Finally I found a good one to use from an emergency pack that I keep around.

I took the box of pouches and tested each one by putting a few drops of water in each and found another 7 leakers. I was wondering if anyone on here has experienced this same thing. Obviously something defective in the manufacturing process. I won't say what brand they are, as I haven't contacted the distributor or the manufacturer as yet, which I plan to do very shortly. This is a 1st for me, I've had my colostomy now for 7 years.

I called Hollister and explained the situation, provided the lot #, the defective pouches were closed end... part # 18393 and I tested them by placing a small amount of water in each. The customer service rep at Hollister indicated that the factory would be notified and they would make good with another box of pouches immediately. This situation could have been much worse as I was home at the time

I have never encountered this problem in the 38 years that I have been using pouches. This is the first I have heard of such a problem. I used to use Hollister until seven years ago when I switched to convatec. Just curious, why don't you use the drainable pouch? Anyway, I hope you never encounter this unfortunate situation again.

Yeah this was very strange indeed. Obviously this was a manufacturing snafu, a total of 8 leaky pouches from one box of 60. I have tested each and every one of the rest of the box. You wouldn't want this to happen when out to dinner, at the beach, or on the golf course LOL!!  I've used Hollister for the last 7 years. Actually it's the only brand I've used and I've been pretty happy with their stuff. Hollister was pretty good about it and will get me another box and alert the factory. I'm still gonna use Hollister.

I don't use the drainables anymore, since I've tried the smaller 7 inch closed end pouches. I find them much more comfortable, and I'm alotted 60 per month, or 2 a day. Soil it and toss it.

  I use Convatec 1 piece drainables and I really never had an issue with them in 20 years.  2 years ago, I had an issue where the leak formed between the pouch and the wafer at the weld.  I contacted Convatec via email and they called me immediately after sending the email.

  They asked for the lot number as well and sent a biohazard box out so that I could send them the faulty pouches.  They also replaced the box of pouches and several free samples as well.

  Anyways, they did an investigation and didn't find anything relevant in the manufacturing process.  But I suppose someone on the weld machine wasn't letting it weld long enough.  And/or the company may be using cheaper materials to save on costs.  Just my 2 cents.
