I have had some skin breakdown around my stoma lately. It is terribly painful and keeps getting worse. My ostomy nurse said today that it was pyoderma gangrenosum. She's got a treatment plan but said it could take a few months. Anyone else have any experience with this? It really hurts and is causing leaks all the time.

I'm now almost three months out of medical facilities with my new, super volume ileostomy. Well, I am home at last, feeling much better pain-wise. I'm worried that my BMs are frequent urges with gravitational pull when I stand up, race to the bathroom only for very little to come out. Please tell me this gets better as I can't be more than 15 ft from a bathroom at the moment?

I would love to know how other ileostomists manage to sleep through the night without having to get up to empty.
I have to empty one to three times. I have tried having my last meal around 6 PM but still have to empty at least once. I don't set my alarm. I'm so tuned in to my bag that it even encroaches on my dreams, so I go to the loo when my bag's full to empty.

This is a dumb question........I hear a lot about irrigation. How do you train yourself for an every other day event, meanwhile you wear some sort of plug...until that time arrives...Why couldn't you just train yourself for an every other day event, by taking out the plug every other day to relieve yourself? Once your body got used to it....even once a day might be helpful...just pull the plug ...

Has anyone found that they needed to have a permanent ostomy and the surgeon moved the site? When I was given the colostomy, the opening was placed just under my lowest left rib. When they removed a stricture and reconnected the colon, I was given an ileostomy and the small intestine stoma comes out in the exact same site.

When I changed my appliance this evening (colostomy), I once again had super irritated skin directly around my stoma. It is the exact same imprint as the Hollister CeraRing I use. This has been going on ever since I started using them (about a month and a half ago) ...

Does anyone else use pure glycerine to create a lubricant to avoid the bag going into vacuum or pancaking?
Is there something better to try?

I just discovered Medicare doesn't cover ostomy belts, but I have secondary insurance that does cover belts.
