I hope I’m posting this in the right forum. I’ve had my ileostomy for 1 month and I’m having a devil of a time with finding clothing where the ostomy bag doesn’t stand out. I’d appreciate any suggestions. Thank you. 😊

Maternity pants. The forgiving high panel covers your bag, and any slightly loose top over them works very well.

I've had an ileostomy for 17 years now and swear by Spanx-like underwear to help minimize the profile of my ostomy. I'm always trying new versions that have just the right amount of support, and my current favorites are these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CSD7Z8HR?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title. If your stoma is too high, these may run a little low on your stomach to completely cover your bag, but TJ Maxx and Nordstrom Rack typically have different versions you can try.

For swimsuits, I have used a high-waisted bottom from Lands End and love it. I've never had to resort to maternity pants, but the concept is the same.

Also, if you aren't already, use M9 order eliminator. It's a game-changer.

Good luck!

Your ostomy bag is probably only really noticeable to you, unless you have a hernia making it really stick out. Finding the right clothing will be trial and error as each person has a different stoma location, physical differences, etc. But, if you're really worried about it, this will fix your problem...

Before I get beat up by the women on here, yes, I'm joking. 😬😁

Have you thought of getting an ostomy wrap? There is one you can look up called Ostomy Secrets. I have too. It helps support also when filled up because it has pockets for your bag to sit in on the inside. Just wear one of those instead of spending a lot on clothes and hassle to find out what works best.

Hi X, when I first got my ileo, that's what I wore for the first couple of years, but then tracksuits became popular, and wind pants with elastic waist and sweatpants, and I never went back to wearing bib overalls.

Yes I ordered one on Amazon. Deliveries are disrupted by the hurricane. Thanks 😊

Now, there is a fetching potato sack. I have seen many less attractive at high prices on less fetching women.

Hi :-)

A month is not a long time so please remember to be kind to yourself.

I have found 6 months down the line I can pretty much whatever I want and it’s not visible. I usually wear shapewear knickers which helps smooth the profile out a lot, whilst also giving the support I would get from a hernia belt (I’m not advocating not wearing a belt by the way, this is just my personal preference). But I think it took me about 6-8 weeks before I was healed enough internally to do that so be patient, and wear comfortable clothes until you are ready. I also find wearing dresses early on helped a lot.

Good luck x

Good morning. Oh well.

Yoga pants or higher-waisted pants without buttons and zippers. Yoga pants hold everything nicely in place. Waistbands, zippers, and buttons really accentuate the bulge.

I had a colostomy for six years, then it was changed to an ileostomy. It's been almost 20 years. You will eventually become a master of disguise, covering up the bulge.

We are all fortunate to be here. We will persist and flourish.

Good luck!

I’ve had an ileostomy for about a month also & was having the same exact problem. I’ve finally given up trying to wear pants with zippers or restrictive “tummy control” of any sort bc I find  the area is still very tender. The best thing I’ve come up with so far is high waisted, buttery soft leggings from Amazon, a size or 2 larger than I normally wear so it doesn’t put too much pressure on the area, and any kind of long, loose fitting shirt that looks nice with the leggings. I’ve managed to buy an entire new wardrobe at a very low price between the $10 leggings from Amazon that come in every color + pattern available, and all the cool fall clothes available at Costco & BJ’s( no shirt or sweater is ever more than $20 maximum) So now I’m comfortable & stylish & no one has to know anything ! Hope this helps.

I forgot to mention, Walmart has a brand called, I think, Time and Tru. Their leggings fit nicely for us, not too tight across the abdomen but snugly around the legs.
