Hello,

Trying a new thing. Fasting for 16 hours. From 8 pm to noon.

I keep having ostomy gas during the late morning. I know to stop this is to eat.

Any ideas... besides eating something? LOL

Don't think fasting will solve your problem. Don't do these things -- they can cause gas: chewing gum, drinking with a straw, smoking or chewing tobacco, eating too fast, skipping meals.

Also try eating more of the following foods: buttermilk, cranberry juice, kefir, parsley, yogurt.

I never eat breakfast, so I've been intermittent fasting for years and didn't realize!

But I get what you're talking about. If I leave it too long between meals or skip a meal, I get a lot of gas and what I call "the froths" (I have an ileostomy). It sounds like a cappuccino machine on the go. If this happens, I just have a snack (usually plain salted potato chips, pretzels, or dry crackers) and it settles down. Either that or I drink a few glasses of water and it will abate.

I have used over-the-counter "DeGas" tablets in the past, and they worked too. Not sure if it's available in the USA, but anything containing simethicone would have a similar effect.

A tip if you ever plan on air travel is to eat every meal that is placed in front of you. I do and drink plenty of water. I found that even on long haul flights, if I'm eating all the time, it keeps the "froths" away, and strangely enough, I don't have to unload any more than usual.

Gas-X tablets. Don't fast and dehydrate yourself.

Trying to shed some pounds.

I too have an ileostomy. Never tried gas pills. I do drink like a fish, so no worries there. I always seem to have the stoma farts when someone at work is at my desk or I am at a meeting.

OMG, it's always the way, isn't it, with stoma noises? Any place where it's quiet, that's when it decides to vocalize! 🤭

Have heard that intermittent fasting is a good way to lose weight. Combine it with low-carb/no sugar, and that may also cut the gas. Find if I eat too many sweet things, it can balloon.

Forgot to mention, exercise - even just going for a walk - can help if I'm feeling a bit like a blimp!
