I'm 3 weeks post-Ileostomy. Trouble with leaking under wafer at base of stoma. I think I'm cutting the wafer to fit closely and using the putty-like ring. And making sure wafer sticks well. Any suggestions?

Hi, I am 75 and 3 months post-ileostomy surgery. I also have a mucus fistula. I was in the hospital for 6 weeks prior to my operation as I was very ill, having had a bowel perforation, and they wanted to build me up before the operation.

Good afternoon, everyone. Just wanted to let you know I had my reversal surgery after all. Was not going to have that done, but a large hernia and skin issues took that choice out of my hands. Now 7 weeks past surgery, I'm doing fantastic.
Reversal was not nearly as bad as I'd feared, and now that I'm on the backside of surgery and all my plumbing is working, I'm glad I had it done.

I am new to having an ostomy bag. It's summer and I want to be able to swim and lay by the pool. What precautions should I take for protection of my ostomy bag for these things that I love to do? I'm also planning in two weeks to go to the beach, so I need suggestions…please!

This is my first post and all has been well since my colonoscopy in April ( my CEA marker is down to 2 after being 160 prior to surgery!).

Hello all, my BB surgery is scheduled for 11/18!! I’m excited, but growing more anxious by the minute. I’m getting my hospital bag ready, and I’m wondering if anyone has any tips for what to bring?
Also, how long were you in the hospital for BB/ileostomy? I’ve already had my colon removed, so this is proctectomy//end ileostomy.

Wanted to share this little tip I got from an ostomy nurse. Did you know that you can use 4x4 skin barrier sheets to make your own barrier rings?
You can get 2 rings from each sheet by cutting them out yourself. I like to make mine the size of the pouch flange or just a little smaller.
Most pouch makers sell these. My favorites are Convatec Stomahesive and Hollister Hollyhesive.

I know barrier strips are supposed to be used to add security to my ileostomy wafer, but I have started putting the strip on my skin first, then the wafer on top. This keeps my skin from any adhesive irritation and healthy looking. A must recommendation.

I'm having poor bag adhesion due to weeping skin… Does anyone have any tips or products they can recommend? I've only had my ileostomy for about 5 weeks and my ostomy nurse is on vacation. I've tried crusting but with no success, so I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with the situation.

I would love to know how other ileostomists manage to sleep through the night without having to get up to empty.
I have to empty one to three times. I have tried having my last meal around 6 PM but still have to empty at least once. I don't set my alarm. I'm so tuned in to my bag that it even encroaches on my dreams, so I go to the loo when my bag's full to empty.

I have a loop ileostomy and a colonoscopy tomorrow. The surgeon's secretary gave me bisacodyl and told me to take it this evening, but he told me my prep isn't like a "normal" cleansing for the procedure. I'm hesitant to take it because of the possibility of extreme dehydration and think she made a mistake. Any ideas or input would be appreciated.
